Thanks Triode, Squeezelite was the best news to me since sliced bread! Just a couple of days ago, I was prepared to throw out my SqueezeBox system and replace it with a Sonos system. I've been using the SoftSqueeze client as it was the only software client being able to stream Spotify, but the quality and reliability did leave so much to wish for. Quite frequently, when starting a song, it restarted after 5-10 seconds, and kept behaving like this until the client eventually died and needed a restart.
Yesterday, I installed the latest beta of Squeezelite and everything works like a charm! I'm impressed! Just as reference, a quick summary of my multi-room deployment: - PC installed in attic: - Intel Atom D510 @ 1.66 GHz, 512 MB RAM, network booted, NFS-mounted FS - Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS - LMS 7.8 - Four instances of Squeezelite, each using a separate USB audio device - Spotify and WIMP plugins - MX1260 12 channel Amp - Ceiling-mounted speakers in 4 different rooms - SqueezePad and iPeng as iPad/iPhone clients I've been running the following scenarios over the last day, and so far with good results: - Spotify streaming - Multiple WIMP streams to multiple zones simultaneously - Internet Radio streaming - Combinations of all above - Synchronization of Spotify stream to 2 zones - Frequent changes of songs/playlists/albums (which previously made SoftSqueeze bail out after a short while) All in all, with the reservation that I've been running this updated setup just a little bit more than a day, it behaves so much more stable than the previous SoftSqueeze installation did. I will expand this system with additional zones over the next month; most likely I will be using Raspberry Pies for the new zones. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ john.vestberg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=51653 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97046 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
