As a final note, in Ralphy's earlier post he says his pogoplug (which
IIRC is practically identical to GoFlex) only takes 2h13m for 25k files
which makes me think that 25hrs for 45k file is still not "normal" and
some tuning possible and needed. 

For LMS RAM is very important as database is kept in memory. Raspberry
PI has 256Mb on older version and now 512Mb . That is a lot more than
128Mb on the GoFlex. Recently RaspPU has added "overclocking" controls
which can make CPU go faster and RaspPi also has a FPU and Linux built
for the FPU which usually speeds up Perl.  Finally if friend is using
Squeezeplug then all all significant memory "tuning" has also been done.
