For some reason, the ping would not work, even after a reboot. That was using a wireless connection to my router. I plugged in the wired ethernet and the ping works on that port. And now so does your wget. I ran the commands as you suggested, and now the "cat /sys/module/kernel/parameters/consoleblank" = 0. I'm testing the hdmi audio now.
