I use the WaveIO as well. From the web interface, use
"front:CARD=L20,DEV=0" as the audio device. Drop the "-a 40::16:". You
don't need to force it to 16 bit, that option is meant for the default
on-board sgtl5000 audio line-out where it is 24 bit capable but it
results in distortion, or I use "40:::" which helps avoid drop-outs when
the board is under load running the server as well.
