Sure but John was planning on using PWM outputs so that the LED was dimmable. What Im suggesting is a lot simpler. Just use a single colored LED which is driven by one of the GPIO pins of the processor. The software simply turns the LED on when play is initiated and turns it of when pause or stop is initiated. This way, the LED provides a simple status of what the player is doing. I have no idea how difficult this is to implement from the software side.
