By making the new feature part of the basic hardware that extra load is put onto the 2-3 guys who are doing all the development. Similarly for the users who want an IR control or a small screen - I am suggesting that some features do not need to be part of the new hardware as there are readily available alternatives which do not have be part of the "core" system - at least not in the first iteration.
