This is strange I have never had this problem before. I think that we
always were able to get sound from the analog audio jack without any
interaction. Simply burn the image and boot, and then piCorePlayer
should turn up in LMS, and start playing, when you choose some music you
would like to hear.

Can the image be corrupted? Is it possible for you to download it
again?

Next please report the results from the command promt:
cat /proc/asound/cards

and when you are playing music (even though you can't hear anything)

cat /proc/asound/pcm
