I don't believe the idea should be restricted to using an SSD, rotary
2"5 HDD should be ok too. On an SFF machine I have a Travelstar 750GB
powered only through 5V (other cables cut flush with the power plug) and
it works perfectly well. In my case I connected the 2 remaining cables
to the 5V/GND pins of an available IDE header.
I don't know what the power requirements of the wandboard are, but
surely you can find how many amps the drive you want to use can draw at
most. I'd say 1 amp max at startup time (5W) and less than 0.5 amp when
active.

Also beware that smaller SSDs (1.8", mSATA) are using 3.3V power rails,
not 5V.
