Changing codecs makes no difference. I don't know what to make of this either. Just thought I'd describe what I've been hearing in the chance that it would trigger an idea. I've used a pa build for several days and never had this happen. Same with disabling mmap in alsa, with it disabled the static doesn't appear either. Let's file this issue for now as I have 2 work arounds. For the record the system with this problem is an old arch linux running a 2.6.26.5 kernel. I mainly use my solaris sparc version of squeezelite for my daily dose of music anyway. Thanks for spending the time to try and troubleshoot the problem.
