Suggest using strace with the -f option to trace all threads:
e.g. strace -p 331 -f

I suspect one of the other threads is racing and you didn't see it with
just looking at the first thread of the process.  Interested if you can
reproduce and capture with the latest version - I've not knowingly fixed
an issue like this so there's still a likelihood it is there.
