@Triode,

I really like the HD Grid skin for browsing my album library, and I can
get used to some of the setting menus being a grid instead of a linear
list, but I really dislike the current playlist being a grid. The
playlist is one place where a -list- is really called for in my opinion
because, well, it literally is a sequential list, unlike the album view
where, even though the items may be arranged alphabetically, I am really
searching -visually- for the cover art corresponding to an album I want
to hear.

However, when in the playlist screen, I often want to quickly assess
where I am in the sequence of tracks, but with the current scheme, I
have to mentally translate a matrix address into a linear offset
((current_row-1) * 6 +position_in_current_row). This arguably
constitutes "cognitive overload" as UI designers like to say, and at any
rate doesn't feel natural. Furthermore, when playing full albums, the
current playlist is typically filled with 12 to 18 repetitions of the
same album artwork, but the distinguishing details of each track are in
a small font that simply can't be read at a typical listening distance.
Hence, this concept doesn't really work practically as a 10 foot (3m)
interface, which I think is desirable since all the other screens do.

I do like jivelite, and think the HD grid skin has a lot of merit. I
just wish I could have the old, list-style playlist screen back again,
combined with the benefits of selecting albums by artwork from a grid as
you currently have it.
