Does that happen no matter what combination of tablets/apps you are
starting?
No. I actually think I was able to narrow it down to one particular app:
OrangeSqueeze on an older Acer Iconia (Android 4.0.x). I've run
SqueezeCommander and Squeezedisplay to show the full screen image on the
same device, and they worked just fine. But as soon as I start
OrangeSqueeze, the NAS loses its network connection.
You are playing audio on the tablets, right? Or is it that just the
controllers connecting causes the connection to fail?
No, playback is on the Transporter.
Do I understand correctly that this is the low level network connection
going down?
Yes.

Oh, I'll check this out. That might be a good point: I can restart
playback, and after a few seconds it crashes. These might be the seconds
required to deal with the artwork.
