One other option is to configure Samba so that your drive is available
through the network. Then you don't need to disconnect it from the WB.

Well, I love to help you with that but you are talking t another Linux
noob :-)
I have no idea if what you did is correct. 

Alternatively, you could try something similar what I did with the SSD
drive. You could flash the CSOS image to your USB drive and create an
additional partition on that drive for your music. Boot from SD but
point to your hard drive for the rest of the software. This way, your
database will automatically be on your hard drive.
