I'm using the i2s card from hifiberry to spdif and a DAC that indicates the bitrate (Cyrus DACX). There are no glitches and the DAC plays the files. but only at 48kHz. I haven't tried the optical which is capable of 24/96 but not 192. (I seem to remember).
I obviously have cloth ears as the sound quality is Ok at 24/48 even though the file may be 24/96. Transporter or Cyrus streamX>CyrusDACX>PreXvs>ESPAudio P09B Active filter>Cyrus X x 2>Rhapsody, Avondale and Naim cable, Kubuntu 12.04 server, various boxes for storage. SB3 Flycatcher 3A linear power supply. Touch also.
