I’m having some strange rebuffering issues and now having tried
“everything”, I need further assistance on troubleshooting.

My setup used to run flawlessly for 2+ years, perfect in every way, but
now I'm getting rebuffering issues during playback.

When worst playing 24/96-material plays intervals with 3 seconds music
and 6 seconds pauses. Standard 16/44 mostly plays okay, but dropouts do
occur often enough to disturb listening. MP3 plays just fine. If it’s
just for a glimpse, the SBT shows nothing, but when prolonged the SBT
does display “Rebuffering …” when it happens.

My media server is dedicated to running LMS. The server runs Ubuntu
Server 14.04 on an Intel 2.8GHz dualcore atom with 4GB RAM and two
disks, a 24GB SSD for the OS, and a 4TB HDD for data.

As for troubleshooting I’ve tried the following, narrowing the problem
down to the media server:

- Network: The rebuffering issue occurs whether the SBT is on wired
Ethernet, on WiFi, or on Ethernet via Homeplug.

- LMS: I’ve now tried LMS 7.7.4, 7.7.6, 7.8.1 and even 7.9 – it appears
to make no difference.

- SBT: I have two SBT in my setup, it occurs on both.

- Server priority: The server is dedicated to running LMS. I've even
bumped LMS server priority to -20, no difference.

- Server load: Looking at "top", only 0.7-2.7% CPU is used playing 24/96
with 4-9% memory usage so there should be plenty of resources.

- Server disks: Both disks pass SMART overall-health self-assessment.

- Server overheating issues: This was suggested on another forum, but
the server was “cool” already and further cooling made no difference.

- Server: Using my windows desktop computer as a server, there’s no
issues, so the rebuffering issue is somehow related to my media server.

I'm running out of ideas on how to troubleshoot, so any help will be
most appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
