It's probably the setting in squeezebox. If you log onto the web interface on your squeezebox menu, select the 'settings' button on the bottom right corner, select 'player', them choose the new player and select 'audio', you may find that the volume control setting is 'fixed at 100%' Change it to 'volume control adjusts outputs', press 'apply' and all should be well.
