hi stereoptic,

Just wondering, when you swap the "Audio out" between HDMI and anything
else, you must do a reboot for the settings to take effect. This is
because some of the settings for HDMI are in the config.txt in the boot
partition and is only read during the boot process. Also, on the
Raspberry Pi the sound is directed to the HDMI OR the headphone port and
again this is determined during the boot process. I will add some more
help information to the "audio out", it looks like I may have deleted it
sometime.

Try playing with Tweaks > Audio tweaks > FIQ-Split acceleration. (Reboot
required)

You can also try increasing/decreasing your buffer size.

regards
Greg
