With a VendorId of 7392 and a ProductId of 7811, there should be no
reason that dongle doesn't just work with the 8192cu driver!

I have one thought, with the mention of A+. I had a "broken" A+ at one
point, where as soon as anything was probed on the USB port, the whole
USB implementation would shut down. With a dongle using the 8192cu
driver, you would see something in the message log about the driver
having stopped. Without an ethernet connection, this will be tricky to
debug unless you have a serial console lead? (That "broken" board was
replaced and the replacement has been used 24/7, for months now, without
issue, with a RTL8188CUS chipset dongle.)

I think you may be best served, especially if you cant access the serial
console, to obtain a B+ or 2B board....
