I'm running LMS on Lubuntu 12.10 for about a year or so. It will run on moderate hardware, a P4 with 2GB, but boots a lot faster as the Quad Core AMD with 8GB and Windows. While serving the files to the Transporter, the system runs at idle and takes no more power as a modern system.
However there are some nags and issues. Sometimes it will not load the graphical interface. I have Teamviewer installed to remote control the machine and I use it to shut it down. After a while, Teamviewer will no longer start with the system. Also, if the system does not bot into the GUI, there's no Teamviewer to connect to. As a workaround, I will not shut down but hibernate the system. When resuming from hibernate there's the *** bug that a password has to be entered to get access. After some time, the machine will not hibernate anymore but go into a sort of sleep mode, it's not turned off. When finishing the installation I made a clone with Clonezilla. About every two months I have to restore the clone to have a system that boots and halts properly. That feels sad. After listening, I like to shutdown the system with as little fuzz as possible. On a Windows computer I would have a shortcut key combination, press that and the system would shut down. I would like to have something similar for my Lubuntu system. I don't like to enter passwords and commands to shut it down, I just want a one key shutdown. Now I tried Lubuntu 13.10. Maybe the Teamviewer, boot and hibernate issues would be better. I am amazed at how much faster is runs. And that's about it with the pro's. There were so many other problems this is not going to work. I was unable to install any software. It seems like 13.10 is blocked or the files are no longer available. I was unable to get the Wifi connection properly working. I need it to control the LMS with my phone. The Wifi connection would end at the router config screen. That came up, and whatever I tried, no external connection was possible. Lubuntu 14 and 15 I can't get LMS to run on. It seems a common problem, there are some solutions I tried but it did not work for me. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Vansloneker's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=64269 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104393 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
