It "should" be as straight forward with all versions of piCorePlayer. Have you tried the bare RPi2B without any additional add-ons? I have found the piScreen does sometimes go blank and requires the power cycled to reactivate it. I had a rather embarrassing episode recently where it thought my RPi2B would not connect to the Ethernet no matter what!
