0dBu is 0.775 Vrms, 0dB on a VU is 4dB higher at 1.228 Vrms, CDPs have a 2.0 Vrms output which is a further 4dB higher still. LMS has an output corresponding to CD, so it all gets rather confusing. Anyone hearing loss in sound quality above 96% volume may have just coincidently started amplifier clipping.
