So tried my non piZERO's and got the same behavior. Then tried PCP, MAC addr always reported back (noticed it was using squeezelite 823). I'm running several pi's with the 384K kernel, and my own compiled squeezelite (ver 808)... turns out it was coming from that version! Compiled ver 825 and works robustly, never get the 00:00:00...'s no matter what.
