Thanks Paul and Paul, I knew it would be something simple in the end...
I turned on the logs in pCP and saw a bunch of
"UPnP::ControlPoint::_gotError (279) Error retrieving device
description: 401 Unauthorized" errors, so while I was able to browse the
SMB share without having to provide any credentials from my laptop I
guessed pCP is not allowed to connect without some sort of user
credentials, so I added a user name and password via the router's share
management page, put the same user details into the relevant fields in
the LMS Network Disk Mount fields and hey-presto, connected like a charm
and I am now happily enjoying all my tunes again.
Don't know why I didn't think of doing this last night - can only put it
down to late night brain drain :o

Anyway, thanks again for all the effort you and the rest of the team are
putting into pCP, if it wasn't for you guys the loss of my NAS drive
would have been a whole lot more painful than it has actually turned out
to be :)
