The wifi support is a feature of the base OS that we use. It is quite stripped down. We have considered re-writing all of the wifi routines ourself, but it is a pretty daunting task to remain compatible with all of the wifi idiosyncrasies.
Have you considered moving to a 5Ghz band router?
