Imho the only products that make sense are the pi zero w and the pi 3. The pi zero w adds comms capabilities and the pi 3 costs the same as a pi 2 (if you can still get one).
By the time you factor the cost of a PSU, SD card, case, and whatever accessories you need the saving between different pi models looks pretty pathetic. >From a power budget POV the pi 3 has higher CPU headroom and can consume more but it's still pretty efficient when idle.
