I'm feeling a little stupid to have kept you busy with this. A simple apt-get purge and dpkg -i did the trick. Everything works now. I don't know what was wrong - I guess I might have installed LMS via Raspbian GUI and a second time via dpkg/repo. Might have been a duplicate installation thus. However, the script for OS dependent installation works great - I tried it.
