I did update the rpi-vc extension, but that really hasn't changed.....but seems there has been a bug in the firmware for a while.
Updating to the latest firmware corrects it........But in all honesty, reading the posts, I'm not sure this is needed anymore. I think the newer firmware handles the hdmi power automatically.
