Get back to basics.
ALSA & Pulseaudio is nothing to do with "quality" it is about accessing
& sharing hardware and ensuring audio stream are compatible with the
audio hardware (e.g. resample a 96kHz stream so that it can be played on
48kHz only capable hardware) .

1. You want a squeezelite to play audio on a set of speakers on system
startup .
what is that audio hardware that drives those speakers ?
What is the ALSA CARD and DEV for that piece of audio hardware

2. Do you want to be logged into the system at the same time as
squeezelite playing audio ?
if so what is the audio device associated with that logged in users for
system sounds, playback of track - in other words will the system audio
of the logged in user come out of the same speakers that squeezelite is
playing audio ?
If it is the same audio hardware as in Step 1 - you will have a problem
(e.g. squeezelite plays a 44.1kHz track and logged user tries to play a
48kHz track at the same time ?).

ALSA and/or Pulseaudio can be used to faciltate sharing audio hardware
so that audio streams are mixed (i.e. audio rate resample to a common
one, channels etc) but the ALSA device (i.e. dmix but has limitations re
resampling ) or Pulseaudio setup has to be planned.
