I don't think I am loading anything special (not sure where to look in
the logs). The "normal" file extensions appear to be up to date. The SD
card is EXT4 (as far as I remember) and the USB flash drive (with the
music files) is vfat. I am not loading any network storage devices.

The pi firmware discovers the USB drive seems to have no problem with
the SD card, because I see this in the dmesg log:

So it seems my old installation is somehow retaining some Linux
directories which are incompatible with an in-situ upgrade. I am
wondering if I can just move the libmount files to the proper directory.


Unfortunately, my Linux skills have become crusty, not having played
with it in the last couple of years - back then I could have figured
this out quickly.:p
