I just updated to the same version of DSM, no problems.

Username don't need to be on both systems, they way you have it is fine.
Just be sure you are entering the password correctly. Please don't use
spaces or special characters in your passwords to be sure. In the mount
options on pCP you should have "vers=3.0,uid=1001,gid=50" (entered
without quotes) for a synology.

In synology, setup SMB shares. My Advanced Settings are as follows

Max SMB protocol: SMB3
Min SMB Protocol: SMB2
Transport Encryption: Auto

These options are the ones checked:
Enable Opportunistic Locking
Enable DirSort VFS module
Allow symbolic Links within shared folders
Apply default UNIX permissions

Unfortunately, I only have a DS413+, so I cannot work with BTRFS
filesystems. While all these systems run the same DSM version, the
kernels are obviously all different, which means cifs support can be
different. Try NFS, it's a better Linux<->Linux file system.
