Sorry, in my excitement for progress I wasn't too clear.
Unfortunatly it only restarts once, and the restart command needs to be
run each time.
Here's the new sudo output and log when it has worked

I did another clean install before trying out your tests, I wanted to
give them the best chance of working.
I thought I did everything just the same. Except perhaps choosing a
different output setting. Previously I'd tried a few to see if it made
any difference. This time I just used hw:CARD=M6,DEV=0
Other than that I don't remember changing the alsa settings yesterday on
the previous install, and I definately didn't change them this
afternoon.
I think I accidetnly tried to run your script before I had changed from
headphone output to usb after the clean install. But that was all I can
think of.
