I have a suspicion what might have caused the write permission issue
with my stick.
The USB stick was originally formatted on a Synology NAS. The data was
then copied onto the stick via the NAS. So the rights on the stick were
definitely not belonging to "tc".
That would explain why initially i could not write to the stick over
SAMBA.
Clicking "set write permissions" then solved this issue. Why I could
then write new files, but not overwrite existing files is not clear to
me.

Anyway, issue solved. I have now deleted all the files on the stick and
recopied them from the Windows PC via SAMBA. I can now overwrite
existing files.
