So maybe hifiberry just not support native dsd playback. I checked their official website and could not find any dsd support annoucement.
if this is the case, you will need to use c-3po plugin to transcode dsd to wav for playback. Or, you can try squeezelite resample option, I found these settings combination works but it's not documented anywhere. set Max sample rate to 192000, set Upsample setting to vX::4:28:95:105:50 Clear your Device supports DSD/DoP setting. then you should be able to playback dsd stream, but the volumn will be -6dB lower then normal.
