If I was you, I'd start with an SD card of *known* quality, and start
again.

The BOOT partition is formatted FAT32 and everyone has read/write
access.

After pCP boots, the BOOT partition is unmounted, so *accidents* are
minimised.

You can do an "ls" to see what permissions are set.

A "df" will show if you have run out of space for some reason.

There is always a chance that the BOOT partition was mounted, when it
should not have been, and some program or command was run that modified
it.

I think, hardware issues can cause the *whole* SD card to be readonly.
