I should know by now that different Macs show different things.

I should have also qualified what I said by saying that I was looking at a
supported Mac. I have not moved my 8600 to OS X yet.

I can tell you a few of the differences  (on a supported Mac) of a having X
& 9 on the same partition and on  different partitions. I assume many of
these differences will show on an unsupported, too.

 =0)     Got  it both ways on my Quicksilver.      =0)

Like if you have X on more than one partition, the non-booted  partitions
with X will show the Unix underbelly at the first level below the disk
image.
