You should also check your free hard disk space. What appears to happen is that OS X creates a disk image file that it puts on the desktop. As you copy to it you are actually copying on to your HD. Then when you eject the disk, it creates yet another disk file that is what it will actually burn. I found that to burn a 600 Mbyte CD I needed to have over 1.2 Gbyte free on my hard drive.
