OK, have finally gotten up my nerve after reading this list for several weeks. I agonized forever over putting X on my upgraded Wallstreet 466/384 ram/20 G HD. I put X on the first 2G of the drive, 9.2.2 on the second 2G and other partitions have 8.6, Apps and Docs. It's been running really well for a month now.
Here's my setup and my plan for my 9600/350/1.5G Ram. Please tell me if this sounds reasonable or what I should do differently. As noted above I like to keep my Apps and Docs separate from the sytems for the most part. *original 4G HD will be partitioned - 3G for X and 1G for 9.1 (or 9.2, will see) *second internal 18 G HD is partitioned with 9.1, 8.6, Apps, Docs and cache/backup volume *internal zip *original 24x CD-Rom *PCI combo USB/firewire (CompUSA) *original Twin Turbo video *XclaimVRPro peripherals *Yamaha 4416 CR-RW *9G SCSI external *2G SCSI external *Microtek V6USL scanner (SCSI/USB) *Epson 1520 *HP 660c *USB cardreader *USB Intellimouse *ADB Wacom tablet *Jaz *Mitsubishi 19" Diamond Plus 91 *Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 87TXM I know many of you have said the oigninal drive is the best best on which to install but it is only 5400 RPM and the 18 G (IBM UltrastarES) is 7200 RPM and the specs are much faster. Would I be better off putting X on that drive? If so, I'll probably repartition so X is on the fastest part. Or would it be more stable on the original? I also don't expect a lot of the peripherals to work from X but will have to live with using 9 for those tasks. If I can get a couple more years from this baby (maybe with a G3 upgrade this summer) I will be satisfied. Then I'll spring for whatever is the latest and greatest at that point. :-) Sorry if this is too long or the etiquette is incorrect. I'm new to this sort of list. Many thanks for any advice you can give!
