I have a PowerTower Pro with 640Mb RAM, XLR8 G3/450 and X.1.4. The machine has been rock solid with 20 days and counting of uptime and very few problems until yesterday. Now when I try to connect to the internet nothing happens. I click "Connect" in either Net Monitor or Internet connect and nothing happens. It is like it is not seeing the modem anymore, which BTW is a Serial GV external 56k. The last time I was able to connect to the internet was Sunday night and then Monday morning I could not. I did not reboot, and no new software was installed between Sunday night and Monday morning. I tried rebooting hoping it would clear up but had the same results. I booted into 9 to determine if either the modem or serial port had gone bad but it connected perfectly. I booted back into X in single user mode and fcsk'ed the disk and it showed no problems.
Also, when I run Xoptimize to update the prebindings it returns an error that says there is no file or directory. I don't think that these problems are related but who knows. So if anyone has any suggestions or solutions please let me know. As a last resort I can format and reinstall but I would prefer not to do that.
