Greetings...this is my very first post. This issue may have been
discussed in earlier threads but if I can cut to the chase it would
be helpful for me.

I'll start by describing my system:

PowerTowerPro 225 with MaxPowr G3 500 mhz upgrade card
Original internal 2.1 gig SCSI HD (non apple)
512 MB ram
ATA/66 PCI IDE controller card driving 2 ->30 GB IDE hard drives,
one has 8.6, the other running 9.1
PCI Belkin USB card adapter, actually I have 2 cards in 2 slots for a
total of 4 USB inputs.
ATI Exclaim 3D Plus display card
Most recent addition (days ago) is a FireWire PCI adapter card and an
ADS FireWire enclosure case with a (temporary) 2.1 gig IDE drive
pilfered from an old Umax clone.

Absolutely everything is working great. All the drives are recognized.

~~~~now a little history...
Over a year ago I was successful in installing MacOS X using Ryan
Rempel's technique.  At that time, I had one of the IDE drives
partitioned as required and everything was working fine.  X booted
etc etc.  I found it to run somewhat slow and after playing with it a
while, decided that it was not really worth fooling with, at least in
it's earlier stages of development.  Since then, I've cleared my
system of anything X related and have the setup described above.
Now, up to date...
A few days ago, I added the FireWire PCI card and the external HD.
It's working beautifully as well.  I'm at the point now that I would
like to consider trying to install MacOS 10.2 on that external
FireWire HD and my questions are as such:
Is this install at all feasible with my current configuration?  I
understand that I should probably partition that external FireWire
Drive and first install 9.2.2 on it to set the stage for an install
of X on the other partition.
My primary concern is whether X will be bootable from this PCI FireWire.
Has anyone has any success booting MacOS X from an external FireWire
HD from a PCI FireWire card using anything similar to my
configuration?
Thanks
Larry Coltharp
