Jake,
I had this same problem with X when I had dial-up
(It's not an issue now as I have broadband now). It
used to dial-up at login and also in the wee hours of
the morning it would do this (very annoying when
you're trying to sleep). What I think the problem is
that X tries to log into a network anytime you
start-up or login and the internet happens to be the
worlds largest network. Anyway, I don't know what
setting changes this, but at least maybe you have a
better idea as to why it does this.
