I had a similar problem with Classic not loading completely. Classic 
would start but never completely load.  I solved it by going over X and 
9.1 with Nortons 6. There were various things wrong but after 
correction, the Classic loaded OK. Your problems seem to start earlier 
but a disk tool might work better than using the system disk utility 
(First Aid?). Good luck.
