I'm using a 9600, 180mhz with 384Mb of ram. For video I have an ATI
RAdeon 7000 and an ATI Mach 64 card as well... Dual headed is great!

My OS X boot disk is only 2gb, but there are several other drives to
keep stuff on until I clone the boot drive to a 4gb.

Well, with the new Radeon card the system is very usable. Yes, it
does feel slow some days.. but I am comfortable using a shell so I
don't have to use the slow GUI in the finder as much. As an example,
I wanted to check the RAM so instead of using the finder to load the
profiler app I did 'open -a Apple\ System\ Profiler.app' in the
terminal. Yeah I know you don't need the .app but then sometimes it
gets confused and tries to load the os 9 version.

What drives me crazy? Well, I'd like to put an IDE card in here so i
can drop a 20 or a 40gb disk so that I can avoid shuffling data
around several drives.

If you have a slow system add ram to it, it makes a huge difference.
Also, I load my most commonly used apps at login, so I don't need to
wait for them to load.

I don't use Classic unless I have to, but even then it's ok, since I
have a pared down OS 9 just for Classic.

Anybody have a spare G3 card they don't need anymore? <grin>

BTW, my wife is also using a 9600 with a similar configuration and
she's very happy with it. She loves the fact that it no longer
crashes. At all.

cheers,

dAVE
