Hi guys
I'm new to this list and have been reading with interest for the past week
or so. I took the plunge last night with my 8600/250 with a Sonnet G3
upgrade, using XPostFacto, and got the black screen of death! I had removed
the firewire and USB PCI cards but not the ATI Rage 128. Nothing would work
- the startup chime, a bit of disk activity, then nothing. I left the
motherboard battery out overnight and did the CUDA reset as described in a
recent post, but it still won't work. Removed the ATI Rage, but still
nothing. OS 9.1 is installed on one drive, and OS 9.2.2 on the other, but
unplugging one or the other did nothing, as did holding down C with the OS
9.1 install disk in the drive. Thankfully this is more of a hobby system and
I rely on my G4 for serious work. Has anybody experienced anything similar?
Are there any possible solutions that I have overlooked? Would replacing the
original processor affect the outcome? If I do get it running again, should
I give up on OS X and just stick with what works, ie OS 9? Thanks in advance
James
