Did you have a reason to go to 9.2.2? Most of my older OSX Macs have 9.1 so that I can move the drives between Macs without a problem. I have not found 9.2 to have special features that I need. I only use 9.2 and higher on Macs that have to have it.

I haven't had much experience with the 8500/8600 models. Although I have have AV on everything from a 6100 I have never used it ( kind of a waste); so I don't realy know of their problems. I have a beiege G3 with the Wings card and I don't think I have even played a audio CD in the G3. I do graphic work on a MDD 867 and the G3 is my OS9 box. I use a 7600/G3 as a print sever and to run SCSI scanners. I usualy do music on the MDD or a B&W G3. I have never done any movies or audio work but I would like to at some time.

The primary reason was that I found the overall performance (speed) and stability to be way better in 9.2.2 than in 9.1. Although everyone seems to have their own preference and I certainly don't care to start that debate on this list. I can still use the AV functions on the G3/Dt's if I boot 9..2.2, which I rarely, if ever, do anymore. For awhile I was converting all my old LP's & Tapes to CD via Felt tip Sound Studio. I used to buy LP's and play them only once in order to tape them(it was a 70's thing). Years later, I now have several hundred pristine albums that were only played one time - I'd rather have the space they occupy. I only used the video stuff on several occasions to attempt to transfer some of the video tapes of the kids. I don't have a DVD burner so the idea was to make VCD's. That got old quick. Figured eventually I'll end up dumping the job on one of those companies that specializes in it.
I'm a still photographer so the AV stuff really isn't that much of an issue to me. Don't really have the time for it right now anyways. Occasionally, when I'm editing in PS7, I'll boot one of the G3's into 9.2.2 and watch cable TV via BTV while I work. (VCR connected to the wings card, the VCR acts like a cable box, sorta). But I've been using OSX across the board for about a year now, and being "visually oriented" I guess the eye candy just does it for me. I'm getting to the point where I can't stand to even look at the 9.x desktop anymore. But to each their own, I've got what I need in 10.2.6

While I'm here:
I posted about a week ago or so expressing my concerns as to if image capture or iphoto could handle the large RAW files produced by digital cameras like the nikon D100. Forget those apps, this one was a no brainer. Connecting the D100 via a USB cable brings the camera media card up as a mounted disk image on the desktop and then you can just drag and drop the files. PS's RAW converter plugin handles the necessary conversion when the file is opened. OK, this is OT? if anyone needs more info, drop me a line.
Thank you to those who did reply to the original post.
