Well, here's the latest on my plight with my external USB2 burner no longer working correctly after updating to 10.2.8...

A long shot - but who knows.

I have a Sony 48x internal in a beige G3. A while back, something, an OS update, an iTunes update, a toast update? removed the "device" file for the drive and replaced it with an updated "device" file that didn't include my drive. Nothing would recognize the drive and it took me quite a while to figure out what was going on. Finally after doing much reading at http://www.xlr8yourmac.com I was able to find the proper support device file I needed and install it. presto- all is well again. From what I read at xlr8, it's my understanding that the device file has to specific to your drive. ex.; one sony or lite-on device support file won't work for all of that brand. Like I said, could be a long shot ....

I installed the 10.2.8 update on my 8600 w/ sonnet G3/500 and a couple of G3/DT's. It works fine on all the machines so far. Yes all my system preferences got reset to default. This was the first update that did that and it's rather annoying. I'm also running toast 6 across the board. Personally, I think toast 6 is a little buggy. I got that same code you mentioned while trying to burn a CD of MP3's. After several coasters, I switched over to toast 5.2.1 and was able to burn it on the first attempt. All my burners are internal though, and I've not experienced the same level of problems you've described.
