Hello. So it is official then? With the amazing Xposfacto, you can run Panther on a beige G3 machine (mine's a desktop) as long as you are using a radeon 7000 32 MB DDR or a Rage Pro 128 video card? This is exciting.

Since I have to combine my USB and Firewire in order to free up a PCI slot for the video card, does anyone know if there's any reason I wouldn't be able to use the compo cards out there that are labeled Windows compatible but do not mention Mac?

Here's an example from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2773594453&category=3753

It says that it's an NEC + ALI chipset 6-port USB 1.1/2.0 & Firewire IEEE-1394 Combo PCI Card Kit.

Anyone have any experience with this? By the way, I take it that Panther on Beige G3's does recognize PCI USB and Firewire in the first place, correct?

Thanks,

Felix

Folks,

I run a mixture of supported and unsupported installs.

I see many opinions that Panther "runs faster" on older supported (but only just) machines. I have Panther on a 700MHz icebook, which therefore can do QE. It's fine, but the speed doesn't make me go "wow". What does wow me is the threaded email, which does a fine if slightly imperfect job of disentangling lists like this one.

So I'm certainly considering pantherising other machines. Has anyone tried yet on a pismo powerbook? No QE support, I know, but even with 512M stuffed inside, I find Jag 10.2.8 sometimes a bit sluggish - especially in the graphics department.

Experienced opinion would be most welcome.
