1. I am using a Blue and White, not an old world Mac, therefore it has
no ZIF carrier card.
2. I fixed this by reverting the 64MB cards to the 1.19 ROM revision
using ATI's ROM updater utility.
SO, there is NO INCOMPATIBILITY with the 900 MHz ZIF and a 64MB flashed
Radeon; it is simply a ROM revision issue with the CPU upgrade. The
older ROM actually works better for me on the 64MB cards; I no longer
have drawing artifacts in Safari or Mail.
I have seen a similar problem with the 64 MB cards (from Sapphire, haven't tried the PowerColor) in a Beige G3 with the stock G3/300 ZIF installed. It's weird. The start-up screen is okay, but when it gets a little bit into the Welcome to Mac screen and the progress bar creeps a little, then the screen goes to horizontal hash.
Dropping back to the 1.19 ROM also solves the problem. So, odd and a little worrisome as I've been selling a few of these on Ebay and I thought it was only an issue with the Intellicolor monitor which is pretty rare. I really hope they don't come back...

This is one of those posts where the original post didn't give enough info to give anyone a chance at answering...not to mention what is a B&W question doing on the Unsupported list ;-) Now that I have that out of the way...still don't know what brand of 7000 Radeon card was flashed. Yes, that could matter. The Power Color cards use a 148MHz Video chip. The Sapphire and ATI both use 183MHz Video chips. So the Power Color is over clocked from the get go once flashed to Mac.(The Power cards do use really fast RAM which seems to make up for the slow Video chip at least at normal speeds but 900MHz might be pushing it.) Different cards use different Video RAM rated at different speeds. This varies from card to card even within brands. May even be older cards that have set somewhere for a while? Surprisingly several ATI 7000 PC cards used really slow RAM and there is a Special Mac Flash ROM for these cards as they won't run without artifacts or at all with the standard 183 MHz firmware.(also a number of Sapphire 32MB cards came with the slow RAM but not any 64MB cards that I know of)So there are 143 & 166 MHz versions of the Mac Firmware that some cards with slow RAM need to work well. The Mac Radeon 7000 cards all seem to use the 183 MHz Video chip and fast RAM as does the Sapphire 64MB card. (For the Record the Mac Edition Radeon while often thought of as better in many ways then the 7000 card has a 166 MHz Video chip)The only issue I know of with the Sapphire cards is the waking from sleep issue so need to set the hard drive to never sleep. Display sleep is fine. It is unknown at this time what causes this odd issue.
Now as far as using the Radeon 7000 cards with OS 9.x are people using the ROM upgrade from ATI? You should be and if not this could be why there would be issues with OS 9.x. and also why the older firmware might work better in some cases. It loads at startup and works as an extension . ATI did this after the Firmware flash opened the door to flashing PC cards. This was their way of not making the same mistake twice.
Just some info that may or may not be of any help or interest. Will S
