> I've just tried to install Java 1.4.2 update on B&W G3 running 10.3.2
and it reports that it cannot be installed as 1.4.1 must be installed
first - cool I here you say just install 1.4.1 - well there lies the
problem, I run that installer and it says 1.4.1 is already present?

There is a general solution to this sort of problem. And it may be useful to other readers.

Copy the installer to a read-write medium, open it (show package
contents) and tweak the installer check script. It'll tell you what
it's checking for... so you can fix that... or just stick an "exit 0"
right after the #! line if you can't figure that out.

Do it with the 1.4.1 first, then the 1.4.2 will probably go in after
you have a clean 1.4.1 install.

Peter as always a wealth of knowledge. Now the dumb questions.

I've done as suggested

Drilled down through conents/resources/ to file called InstallationCheck my Mac tells me it's a UNIX executable. How do I modify it? assuming I have right file!!

Or have I missed something totally

Thanks

Simon
