Very true, however, there's a big price difference. <G> The 29160 is
probably the closest Mac card and it's just as costly as the 2940.

the 2940 supports Unix, there should be a way to get it to run on OSX
with a unix hack?

There was a 2940UW card which was an "Open Firmware" card. Not for the Mac, not for PCs. I imagine it was for Sun workstations. I don't know if Sun OF is similar enough to Mac OF, but if so, that might work. However, I've never seen one of the cards, only the firmware updater for it and that was on Adaptec's ftp site. They shut down public access to their ftp site a few years ago, and I don't appear to have succeeded at preserving a copy of the OF firmware for the 2940UW.
