And Simon, I wish you were right about that but, from xlr8yourmac.com's database, I've learned that folks were surprised to find out that bus speed would have to be brought down to 66 on the B&W. Here's the question and answer from their FAQ:
Q: Why does the Encore/ZIF (700MHz and faster) require that my Blue & White or PCI Graphics G4 bus speed be slowed to 66MHz? Doesn't that slow down my computer?
A: Developing a high-speed G4 upgrade for these systems required some very advanced engineering, and one of the compatibility issues could not be resolved with the bus at 100MHz. In the interest of offering the fastest-ever G4 upgrade for these users, the decision was made to adjust the bus to allow for flawless processor operation. Benchmarks show that the overall result is a very positive gain for Blue & White owners. As long as the Encore/ZIF is properly installed, there is a solid benefit in virtually all applications.

These benchmarks don't compare the performance b/w a BW and a Beige, which is what prompts my question. If you know something I don't, I'd love to hear about it. The Blue and White doesn't boot up even from the CD. If I get it (from work), I was wondering if I might get it to work if I replaced its memory, HD, CD-ROM Drive, and processor (with a G4 upgrade)--all components that would come from my beige G3. Hope eveyone's well. I'm taking a linux course. Maybe in the not too distant future, I can be a unix resource for others--unless linux and bsd are just too different.

Very interesting - I'll go and have a look at xrl8s website. I would then seriously consider another manufacturers card perhaps powerlogix or one that allows the 100mhz system bus to be used as it strikes me as taking two steps forward and one step back and I don't believe the benefits warrant the extra expense for the faster card(s)
This doesn't make sense when you backwards calculate the bus/CPU ratio which work out at 12.12x and 15.15x respectively - where if using a 100mhz bus works out at a much more logical 8x and 10x respectively?
What do others think?
